This is a sneak peek of the beautiful gold dress I was set to wear to this month’s Make-A-Wish Arizona Wish Ball, celebrating 40 years of making wishes come true for children battling a critical illness.

The Wish Ball, like many other philanthropic events, has been postponed due to COVID-19.

Thanks to the wonderful staff at Make-A-Wish Arizona, they secured a new date almost immediately and this dress will get worn in August.

Unfortunately, we’ve been told an estimated 60 Arizona wishes could be delayed by COVID-19 related postponements in March and April, with 30 to 40 more each month as restrictions continue.

I’ve been a Make-A-Wish Arizona board member for nearly 5 years now and I have met many wish kids and their families who speak about the life-changing power of a wish. It provides hope during a time when these children and families need it most. It provides them with an opportunity to experience their one true wish and much needed respite from the doctors, hospitals, needles, poking and prodding they often endure as a result of their illness.

The health and safety of our Make-A-Wish Arizona wish kids and their families is paramount.

Therefore, all wish travel is postponed until further notice.

Knowing how much these children look forward to experiencing their one true wish, no doubt made this decision a difficult one for our chapter leadership.

Please keep these children and families in your thoughts as we all work through this difficult time.
