Co-anchoring a post presidential debate television special with the Legendary Walter Cronkite.
This was the third and final 2004 presidential election debate between President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry, held at Arizona State University.
Mr. Cronkite was gracious, kind, and a joy to work with.
He wanted me to call him Walter.
But I just couldn’t bring myself to call him anything but Mr. Cronkite.
I wrote in my scrapbook that, after our special, Mr. Cronkite said to me, “They told me you’d be great. They were right.”
I remember thinking then, that nothing would ever top that!
Then he signed my copy of his memoir, A Reporter’s Life.
He wrote, “It was a pleasure working with you – a skilled journalist.”
What a treasure.
Sometimes it’s nice to look back and recall the amazing opportunities this life and career have given me.
I do not take any of it for granted and am still humbled by it all.
Also, shoutout to my fellow scrapbookers of the 90s and 2000s.
This is why those hours of cutting and pasting will forever be worth the investment.
