One of our most important Horizonte episodes this season focused on the drastic shortage of Latino or Spanish-speaking doctors across the country – and in particular – in Arizona.
This June, we expanded that conversation into an Arizona PBS sponsored film screening, health fair and panel discussion.
I am incredibly proud to have moderated this informative and important conversation that not only touched on implications of this issue, but moved people to want to take action as individuals and a community, to find solutions.
Thank you to Working Nation for collaborating in this initiative and allowing us to share their very important documentary film “Hispanic Doctors: Missing from Medicine” both on Horizonte and again at the screening.

They brought their passion and in-depth perspective on this issue: How the gap leads to disparities and inequities in the health care system. How patients struggle to access proper care. The cultural misunderstandings and translation issues that create a lack of trust in the healthcare system, And how this issue impacts our economy. Plus, they offered some solutions that we can all back both individually and collectively, as a community.
